How much does it cost to Supercharge your Mustang?

Posted by Hypermotive on 14th Sep 2022

We get asked daily here at Hypermotive; what does it cost to Supercharge my Mustang?  A Supercharged Mustang is the ultimate step, Turbocharging too of course, to getting the most horsepower out of your Mustang.  Ever since the Coyote platform was introduced in 2011 for the S197 and S550 chassis, making 600RWHP is a breeze.  Who would've thought in 2005 with the 4.6 3V engines that in a few years we'd safely be able to throw a supercharger on a Mustang and easily making 600 plus Horsepower?!?!

First I'd like to point out that today's date is September 14th 2022 and with the crazy pricing changes constantly happening, these prices will change.  Also, these prices are just an estimate.  Pricing is completely different based off region, we know that in California or Florida, the labor pricing is much higher than here in NC.

Roush Supercharger Systems for your Late Model Mustang

When we think of superchargers a few brands come to mind.  Whipple Superchargers, VMP Superchargers, Roush Superchargers, Vortech, Paxton, Procharger, Edelbrock and many more.  For the sake of time, we'll limit a few estimates to 2018-2022 Mustangs using Whipple and Procharger which are our two most popular kits we offer.

There are literally hundreds of options but there are a few questions we always ask a customer before moving forward:  1. Do you want a custom kit, with custom tuning or: 2. do you want an off the shelf kit with tuning provided by the Supercharger manufacturer? 3. what is your budget? 4. what are your goals?

Now lets talk numbers!  This is what people want to know, what is the cost??

Lets start with Whipple, and lets go with a custom kit with all the options!

Platform: 2018 Mustang GT

3. Whipple superchargers upgraded oversized heat exchanger

FORD MUSTANG MACH 1 SUPERCHARGER KIT FROM PROCHARGER: Available at Hypermotive

Both of these kits we've seen HP numbers from the Mid 600's RWHP to low 700's depending on air quality, heat and outside temperature.

Some options you can switch:

FIC1000 injectors, you can upgrade to higher rated injectors if you plan to run E85 and make more horsepower

Fuel System, as stated we highly recommend Fore Innovations, they are the standard in fuel systems and their quality is beyond reproach.

If you have any questions at all, don't hesitate to give anyone of our staff members a call and we'll discuss all options with you to help build you the Performance car of your dreams!!  Do you want us to add other supercharger kits?!?!  Send us an email, leave us feedback!

We've received some feedback and agree, lets add in the Vortech/ Paxton variant.  Few things to keep in mind, the difference between the 2018 Vortech and Paxton are minimal, now that the base Vortech kit comes with the V3 JT head unit, this essentially is the same as the Paxton 2200SL.  Earlier year mustangs come with the Vortech V3 SI Self Lubricating head unit and although it makes great power, the max power capability is less than the Paxton head unit but that changed for the 2018+ Mustang GT models.

So to break it down, here is a Vortech Supercharger kit for a 2018-2022 Mustang GT.

Platform: 2018 Mustang GT

Vortech V3-JT Supercharger kit with installation, remote tuning and dyno time

**we highly recommend upgrading your stock oil pump gear and Crank sprocket to billet ones**

Parts list - Just like we stated above: this parts list isnt set in stone, there are options based off budget and goals but never skimp out on the quality of fuel components!

1. Vortech V3-JT Supercharger tuner kit with satin finish head unit

2. Injector Dynamics ID1050x injectors

3. VMP PnP boost a pump (only recommended for 93 octane) (E85 you will need a fuel system, we recommend Fore Innovations)

4. Brisk RR12S spark plugs (keep in mind that NGK6510's are the same range as stock spark plugs in the 2018 and up Mustang GT)

5. Lund Racing remote tuning session with HPT RTD Device

6. Boundary Billet Oil Pump Gears and crank sprocket

7. Upgraded Vortech Maxflow Race Blow Off Valve

8. JLT Cold Air Intake for Paxton and Vortech Superchargers

9. Labor for installation, includes new fluids as well as dyno time

Total estimate: $11,00.00.00 Excluding tax - You can expect approximately the same price for a Paxton supercharger kit.  These kits with the stock pulley we've seen anywhere from 640RWHP to 675RWHP depending on weather and heat.  You have the option to pulley down for additional $100.00 which has the potential to get you into the 700 or close to that mark, again depending on weather, elevation and heat.

Another thing to keep in mind with these Mustang Coyote engines is fueling and the limitations involved with it.  For instance, the best practice is to ask and listen to your tuner and to make sure your tuner always operates on the side of caution, always maintain an open dialogue with your tuner and remember, a tuner can never tuner around a mechanical issue, so always make sure all mechanical issues are solved before tuning.  We like to stick to around 700-725rwhp max (depending on supercharger kit) when running 93 octane fueling, anything more you run the risk of detonation and have very little wiggle room if you get a tank of fuel that doesn't end up truly being 93 octane.

E85 is a very popular option however, requires much more fueling capabilities from your fuel system.  At a minimum we require you to run a dual pump fuel system, preferably a Fore Innovations fuel system.  Fueling is where you don't want to skimp, which I would also include tuning in that as well.  Lund Racing, Palm Beach Dyno, Ortiz Performance, Juggernaut Tuning, AED are all great options for tuners.
